This document contains the contents and events of a copy of the game Psychonauts by DoubleFine.

Please note that the game is now kept in lab X01 in room 0VI, which is currently under investigation for possible entities and other abnormal behaviour.

The disk was retrieved on XX/XX/20XX in the state of California, Sonoma. It was retrieved (along with being inside its case) outside of the MacArthur Hotel & Spa, where it was collected from besides one of the dumpsters covered in a substance which, after testing, was confirmed to be the cerebrospinal fluid of (now retired) dentist, Dr. Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxx. As of documentation, the man’s information, whereabouts and status are still under investigation.

The disk’s case was warped due to the fluids and appeared to have had something written on the back in what was presumed to be blue ink, but is partly illegible besides the words ‘Think’, ‘Error’ and ‘Fix’.  There is also the absence of the manual inside the case. It is able to play on the 2001 Xbox, though the disk has minor scratches possibly due to the past owners use.  The disk appears to be drawn on too, with white permanent marker scribbled all over the characters eyes.

When is inserted into the console’s disk tray and starting it, the Xbox begin to make a grinding noise, but when disassembled and inserted again, there would be no abnormalities in the console. The Xbox would still make small grinding noises at random when running the game. It is unknown how as stated before, there would be no problems with the Xbox’s interior.

Looking through the games files has come up with nothing of note, besides a text file named: ‘Putting Scrambled Eggs in The Wet Basket, and the Old Eggs in The Cramped Box’.  The file contains an ASCII picture of a lobotomy.  It is unknown as to why this is in the game files.

The game itself was recorded to be normal and playable, with it playing the same as the original Psychonauts game. Testing has shown no occurrences outside of standard glitches and bugs common in games from around the time. Multiple playthoughs and testings of the game were recorded to be slightly odd in places, with textures being in random places.

A tool assisted speedrun robot (TASBot) that has been modded by programmers to play games until an incident in said game occurred.

Recorded playthorughs without incident: 18

The robot ceased activity around the 19th playthrough, pausing the game after the cutscene played of Raz (the game’s protagonist) inhaling the sneezing powder which would cause him to lose his brain and go into the brain tank.

Moving Raz’ brain around via. Telekinesis would show Raz’ model as it did throughout the game, but in the recorded playthrough, it instead showed Raz’ model with what looked to be lines of white coming from the eyes, nose and mouth along with the models eyes being the same shade of white. The walking animation was almost the same except it moved in a way similar to limping.  When interacting with Raz at this time would, instead of giving the normal “TV?” Line, it would be a lightly distorted and muffled version of the line.

Going into the meat circus stage would give the same results, with all the models having the same white liquid coming out from their faces and white eyes

Saving at that point would cause the game to reboot itself back to the main menu.  The save game wouldn’t start up, this would make the game unplayable and require the player to delete the save data.  This in turn causes the game to become severely corrupted, as the brain on the menu screen would begin to glitch out.  The game would unable to be exited from for unknown reasons and would need to have a hard reset as a result.

The game would now be permanently altered from here, with all in-game models now having white eyes and the same white liquid coming from their eyes, noises, mouths and now has the addition of the ears, with the liquid now looking to now be coming out of all the models ears. All of the liquid appeared the be drawn or edited on the models, along the all of the pupils being erased to look blank.

The text box had also been affected, with the subtitles now being jumbled letters, numbers and symbols.

Further observation has shows that the models appear to move the same way they did in the game, but now the models appear to tilt, go into the ground slightly and move slightly slower then in the original game.  Choosing to talk to any of the npcs in the game would give the same responses via the voicelines, but are now sounding muffled and static-like.

Later into the game, when you get to the entrance of the Thorny Tower asylum area, there’s an npc in the game named Boyd Cooper. He is a guard of the asylum gates and won’t let Raz pass unless he goes and finds a man called ‘The Milkman’.  When idle, he speaks in randomly generated dialogue to sound like he’s making up conspiracies.

Though when the game was reset with the abnormal occurrences, the randomly generated dialogue was now quieter. Audio editing has shown that the dialogue sounded more reverberate and less coherent. Some of the researchers described it sounding “haunted” and “unnerving”.

Some of the researchers felt unease when listening to the dialogue.

Interacting with Boyd shows his model being identical to the others with the same white liquid, but the liquid appeared to drip down his clothes, looking like it was drawn on as well. The 3d model was stuck in the standard ‘T pose’ with no animation.  The model appeared to flicker from his normal appearance to that of the Milkman’s model, along with the 3d model clipping into the floor slightly.

For some reason, Boyd’s text is legible though is altered slightly. Here are some of the recorded dialogue from Boyd:

“Hey doc, you think this is gonna work?”

“I’m not keen on this whole thing…”

“You think we could try something else?”

“A disk? You think that’s gonna do something?”

“This looks painful…”

“What’s that stuff coming from the TV?”

“I’m getting a headache just thinking about that…”

“What in gods name are you doing, doctor?!”

“Ugh, I don’t feel too good.”

“My head hurts…”

There appeared to be more dialogue from the npc, though could only be interacted with in certain periods of time.

The rest of the models appear identical to Boyd, now with the white liquid on there clothes as well.  The mind levels also appear to be affected, with some of the background now being white and some of the collectables being missing or out of bounds.

The stages of the other inmates are partly intact, but do have bits of corruption in some parts of the level.

The brain tank battle is similar to when the issue was recorded, but now was slight less distorted and more muffled.  Raz’ bran was now more white, and the brain tank was coloured to look more worn and rusted.

The final stage of the game was the most glitchy level in the game, with some parts of the floor missing and some of the textures being white. The knife throwers had no animations, the fortune teller had been removed from the game somehow and the lady that you use to get onto different platforms also had no animations.

The cutscene that played before you fought little Oly’s dad didn’t play, dropping the playing into the fight.

The boss fight in the meat circus had the butcher dad now with white liquid on both him and his knives, replacing the blood on the model.

The butcher appeared to look more pale, as if the saturation on the models have been turned down slightly. The blood in centre of the tent is also replaced with the white liquid.

Mental Augustus now appears in thin air in the same basic ‘T-pose’ instead of coming out of a box like he did from the normal game.  When doing the trapeze walk when doing the climbing stage, mental Augustus will instead clip through the rope and teleport to his usual position. The dialogue is also distorted, along with the throwing sound effects.

The cutscene before fighting the two dads didn’t play, as the game immediately put the player in the two headed dad fight.  The boss model appeared to have the same liquid coming from the eyes and mouth, along with the blood being replaced with the liquid. Raz and the dad didn’t have any animations, with both of them in the ‘T-pose’.

When the fight ended, there would be a cutscene that played showing Raz and the real Augustus separating and leaving coach Oleander’s mind from Raz’ and then showing Raz getting promoted to a psychonaut by Ford Cruller.

Instead, the game would fade in to all of the changed in-game models in the default ‘T-pose’ along with the faint sound of ambience playing in the background. At the bottom of the screen, there would be black and white text at the bottom slowly fading in, saying the phrase.

“The mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

The word ‘waste’ would then blur and change to say ‘taste’.

If the game was left in at the point, the console and the tv would begin to leak a clear fluid, this would cause both electronics to stop working.  Testing shows that the substance is identical to the one where the disk was first found; cerebrospinal fluid of Dr. Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxx.

As of writing this report, there are several researchers looking into the origins of this version of the game are still ongoing.

UPDATE: One of the staff members has found a possible lead to the possible creator of the game.  It is a blurry photo of what appears to be a tall blue figure with a skinny build, the figure looks to be male and appears to be missing a right arm. The figure also looks to have heterochromia, with one eye being green while the other one being red. The photo appears to be taken inside either a lab, or an abandoned shed.

Further research is ongoing.

Note from staff:

It is important that researchers who play the game after resetting with the issue must cease after 48 hours. As of now, those who choose to play the game fully without stopping or saving the game will cause humans within the vicinity of the console to leak out cerebrospinal fluid from their eyes, nose, mouth and ears along with their pupils becoming white. Future testing of the game must be conducted by the TASbots.

(Authors note: This was originally supposed to come out on Halloween, but I had some technical difficulties when I posted it on another wiki, also I wanted to try and give this gaming Creepypasta a twist. It took a long time to do but I made it in the end! Thank you for reading.)
